EP8: Galilee, pt 1 - Baron Saffron sets up shop [~25 CE]

In this episode the team journeys back in time to the era of Jesus Christ in Galilee, circa 25AD. After getting caught stealing some bread, Tan forges an unlikely friendship with a spice merchant before setting out to become a saffron dealer in his own right.

With the help of his mentor he meets the fearsome saffron dealer Mordechai to explore business opportunities around town. But things quickly turn sour and it’s not long before Tan is galloping on a stolen donkey to Mordechai’s estate to try and poach his best people before the merchant returns home.

Armed with a pocketful of weapon-grade mud and a presentation on the ownership structure of John Lewis, Tan attempts to win over Iron Fist, the chief guard of Mordechai’s estate.

Will Tan be able to talk the hard man over with his patter, or will he end up locked in a Galilean dungeon awaiting the administration of justice?

This recording was partly influenced by listener Chris Mason’s request for a visit to Jesus’s time and partly by Tan’s long-harboured desire to know more about Jesus inspired by his sixth form religious studies lessons, especially the work of Geza Vermes.
