Samurai Claude

s3E9: Player vs GameMaster

Samurai: no sense of humour

We return for an adventure with GameMaster Claude this week – to Medieval Japan and the land of the samurai.

Will Claude behave himself this time or will he try and take over the game? Spoiler alert: he will not behave himself.

Tan tries to impress a Japanese landlady with a wink, improve the local agriculture and of course to fight a samurai.

Don’t miss s3E9 – out on Monday 1 July.

AI in the news

AI students: indistinguishable from humans

It turns out ChatGPT is better than real people at exams.

A study at Reading University created 33 ‘fake students’ using the AI programme and found that these scored on average half a grade higher than human students in a psychology degree exam.

In all but one case the AI-generated answers did not raise any suspicions with examiners.

“We won’t necessarily go back fully to handwritten exams - but the global education sector will need to evolve in the face of AI,” says Associate Prof Peter Scarfe, who jointly led the study.

This seems like another mark on the naughty tally for AI. Not quite Terminator 2 Judgement Day naughty, but naughty nonetheless.

Battle of the AIs

Chappelle’s worst ever gig

There’s an intriguing battle going on between the AI companies. The latest iteration of Claude, released just a week ago, has been hailed as a slicker, faster and more intelligent beast than competitor ChatGPT.

Harvard AI enthusiast Emmet Halm asked Claude to write a funny critique of GPT and plugged the result into a Dave Chappelle deep fake video generator.

The result is some pretty bleak anti-comedy. Funny, but perhaps not in the way originally expected.

In any case we’ll be seeing if we can get something slightly sharper out of Claude in s3E10 of PastMaster when we welcome comedian Heidi Regan to the studio for an adventure in Sherwood Forest. Stay tuned…

Until next time, Tan and the PastMaster crew
